AB+F Insurance Awards 2011 The IVY Ballroom, 320 - 330 George Street, Sydney // October 20, 2011

The winners of the 9th annual AB+F Insurance Awards proudly sponsored by Telstra were revealed at a ceremony at the Ivy in Sydney last night.

Our panel of industry experts judged Australia’s best insurance companies and executives based on their performance in 2011. The judges came from across the general and life insurance sectors, reinsurance, and financial and credit performance.

In what has been the most challenging general Insurance environment for decades this year awards were dominated by companies and products that delivered a real social dividend simply and effectively. The process of selecting winners was particularly difficult this year however the benefits to the Australian public and economy of a strong Insurance sector was clearly on display at last night’s awards ceremony.

Ten awards in total were handed out to worthy recipients in the insurance industry, with Mark Milliner, Chief Executive of Suncorp Personal Insurance scooping the award for Australian Insurance Executive of the Year.

Accepting his award, Milliner referred to the challenges faced by the industry over the course of the last twelve months. He said: “In my 17 years at Suncorp, this last summer has been the worst summer that I have experienced from a claims perspective. That said, I think the insurance industry has responded exceptionally well to what has occurred.
